GP - Simfoni

PROJECT DETAILS

Streamlining Engineer Workflows

Georgia-Pacific’s manufacturing engineers relied on a patchwork of third-party tools to monitor equipment, troubleshoot issues, and track failure modes. Simfoni aimed to replace these with a cohesive platform, optimizing workflows for real-time monitoring and efficient task management.

My role involved leading UX and UI design, from stakeholder alignment to scalable interface development, to deliver simplicity and efficiency for engineers.

the PROBLEM

Fragmented Tools, Slow Workflows

Engineers navigated multiple platforms—spreadsheets, analytics tools, PI diagrams, and alert dashboards—each with distinct interfaces and data structures. This fragmentation slowed troubleshooting, created blind spots, and diverted focus from critical issues to data navigation.

The challenge was to design a cohesive platform that integrated equipment health, process control, and asset data, mirroring engineers’ natural workflows for faster, more confident decision-making.
project goals
  • Simplicity - Deliver intuitive navigation and clear data presentation.
  • Efficiency - Minimize clicks and redundant workflows for troubleshooting.
  • Integration - Unify disparate systems into a single platform.
  • Adaptability - Create a framework flexible for various mills and use cases.
the PREVIOUS PROCESS

A Fragmented Workflow

The legacy approach forced engineers to navigate multiple platforms in sequence just to track down potential failure modes. From dashboards to asset lists to analytics overlays, each step lived in a different system, creating inefficiency and slowing response times. The process worked, but it was far from scalable.
This complexity wasn’t just frustrating — it slowed engineers down when every minute counted. SIMFONI reimagined the process into a single, integrated flow, putting all the tools in one place so engineers could focus on solving problems, not chasing data.
OUR APPROACH

Iterative Design with Stakeholder Input

Simfoni was built through rapid cycles of stakeholder collaboration, wireframing, and prototyping to ensure usability and alignment with engineers’ needs.

Stakeholder Workshops

Partnered with engineers, analysts, and managers to map workflows, identify pain points, and align on troubleshooting priorities.

Rapid wireframing

Used Figma to create low-fidelity wireframes, focusing on intuitive navigation and information hierarchy to streamline workflows.

Interactive Prototyping

Iterated wireframes into clickable prototypes, testing with stakeholders to refine usability and address friction points early.

High-Fidelity Design

Developed a modern design system with reusable UI components, consistent dashboards, and hierarchical KPI views for cross-mill adaptability.
the solution

A Cohesive Platform for Engineers

Simfoni integrates disparate tools into a streamlined platform, enabling remote engineers to monitor equipment, prioritize failure modes, and manage tasks efficiently. The interface features intuitive navigation, hierarchical KPIs to highlight critical risks, and adaptable components, reducing cognitive load and optimizing decision-making across mill operations.
results & reflections

Faster, Clearer Descision-Making

Simfoni simplified complex workflows, enabling faster troubleshooting, better visibility into critical risks, and improved collaboration across mills. Early feedback highlighted its efficiency and adaptability. Rapid iteration with engineers taught me to prioritize usability under tight deadlines, creating a design foundation that supports Georgia-Pacific’s evolving needs.
